818 Tattoo Collective-Tattoo Studio Poole
Engineering Meets Ink!
818 Tattoo Collective was born from a creative mind with an engineering background, a passion for pushing boundaries, and a story that has come full circle.
It all began when Simon, working alongside a close friend who was a tattooist, designed and built his own tattoo machines. Combining Simon’s engineering knowledge with his friend’s experience, they developed coil and rotary machines that soon found their way into the hands of artists across Europe.
Artists including Xed, Lucky Diamond Rich, Joe Munroe and many more became part of that journey, creating a growing network within the tattoo industry.
Simon also began working with Jeff Jaguar, a former Merchant Navy sailor from the 1950s who practised traditional sailor tattooing and made his own inks. Simon eventually took over the ink side of the business, becoming a tattoo supplier in Dorset.
As Simon’s engineering business grew, the machine-building and tattoo-supply side eventually came to an end. It was later that Simon and Sheryl came together and tied the knot.
Sheryl became Company Secretary and took on the behind-the-scenes running of the engineering factory along side Simons son Perry, helping to keep the business moving forward.
With their children now grown up, the opportunity came to revisit Simon’s long-standing connection with the tattoo world.
Together, Simon, Sheryl and Perry decided to create 818 Tattoo Collective.
What started as an idea has grown into a professional, private tattoo studio in Upton — built with artists in mind and centred around creativity, quality, community and the freedom to push what is possible.
While Sheryl continues to run the engineering factory behind the scenes, she has also been the driving force behind bringing 818 to where it is today — from developing the studio itself to creating the website, building the brand and being the face behind the social media.
Today, 818 has grown into a collective with a team working alongside Sheryl & Simon to run the studio, allowing the vision to continue growing while maintaining the personal, family-led values at its heart.
Simon remains at the heart of the story, bringing his engineering background and long-standing connection to the tattoo industry, while Sheryl has brought the organisation, creativity and determination needed to turn that history into something new.
Together, they’ve brought everything they’ve built over the years into one place — engineering, tattooing, creativity, business and family.
For us, 818 Tattoo Collective is about more than tattoos. It’s about creating a place where artists feel supported, customers feel welcome, and everyone who becomes part of the collective contributes to something special.
The journey started with an engineer and a tattooist building a machine together.
It grew into a network, it became a business, and today-it’s becoming a community.
